Our history

AVK is in the lovely seaside village of Ahuriri.

Art galleries, funky shops, a boutique cinema, post office, hairdressers, beauticians, a florist, a pharmacy/gift shop, and a plethora of Cafés, eateries and restaurants, make this village a destination.

There is a sandy beach safe for swimming, and children love exploring the rocky shore further down the beach or playing at the fabulous playground in Spriggs Park. The off-road walking and cycling pathway meanders past, bringing tourists and locals alike, to the village.

Close by is the nightlife hub of Napier down on the West Quay wharf. You can watch the local fishermen bring in their catch or have a go at fishing off the wharf yourself or hire kayaks or paddle boards and check out the yachts in the harbour. Local history like the Iconic Art Deco Rothmans Building and the Old Custom House just add to the flavour of this pretty village.

2012

Situated under the Navigate Seaside Hotel, the wee Sol Café was established and operated on this site for 5 years.

August 2017

The empty, adjacent site was an office for a Travel agency. We purchased the business and took hold of the lease for the adjacent site too, doubling the potential floor space.

Work started on joining the two sites

Many a late night was spent cleaning, painting & wallpapering.

Later that month

Many a discussion on visionary design ideas was had over a tea and/or vino!

2017

Ahuriri Village Kitchen finally opened

We changed the name to AVK – Ahuriri Village Kitchen

The Coffee Loyalty Card was created for our awesome regulars

December 2017

We wanted to create a really relaxing and inviting atmosphere: a place were you could enter with ease and immediatley feel comfortable. We opened to combine the adjacent site. Dinner service began and brunches took off.
